October 2026 Newsletter

Hey, Folks – Happy Autumn and happy October.

First and foremost, please signup for the early review of book 3, if for no other reason than to vote on the cover art. There is no obligation, even if you sign up. The signup form has a survey for which weapon should go on the cover for book 3. I currently have three votes: two for the hobgoblin cavalry javelin and one vote for the polehammer. Here is the link to the google form. Thanks.

I had a great time up in Des Moines at for GalaxyCon meeting a whole bunch of great people. Big shows are always great because you meet and see a lot of different things, people that put a lot of time and love into their cosplay, other vendors that have their own great products, crafts, and books.

I met Strix Corvus (https://www.instagram.com/strix_corvus__scifi_author/), a SciFi author that was my booth neighbor. Check out his SciFi novel where a heroine is the only hope for her colony ship against mind controlling aliens.

I also met Sarah Jones, who was my booth neighbor behind me. She’s got some really amazing fantasy-themed artwork. Checkout her page here (https://www.instagram.com/the_realm_of_the_artist/).

Reconnected with Darby Harn (https://www.instagram.com/darbyharnauthor/), who has been a mentor to me since my first show at O-Con 2025 and met a few other authors that were very kind with their wisdom and experience. Following GalaxyCon, I held a booth at Camp Leavenworth. Another great show. Folks are always happy to support Kansas City local authors, but it’s especially fulfilling when people come up and only buy book 2. Good fireworks on Friday night and great turnout on Saturday. Met a lot of new faces, but ran into some familiar ones, too. We had to cut it short because of a storm rolling in.

And that brings us to the work on book 3 that got done this month. I finished editing the core manuscript of book 3. There are some things that my editor is cleaning up and a couple of ankle-biters to address, but it is more or less done. Also finished adding the detail to the new entries for the character index, gazetteer, and glossary with pronunciation guidance. Finalized the map of Mernan with Luke that I showed you last month (I owe Luke a few more cases of his beverage of choice).

Focus for this coming month is going to be writing the lore appendices, illustrating, recruiting more early/advance review (ARC) readers, coordinating more maps with Luke (and paying him), and preparing for upcoming events.

Album of the month: Awakening by Robert Parker (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN-YSzAbZZo&list=RDUN-YSzAbZZo&start_radio=1&t=1480s). Great working music.

Upcoming events:

  • Storyteller Market, Des Moines, Iowa, 17 October

  • Meeple-A-Thon, Kansas City, MO, 6-8 November

Autumn is my favorite season and rain is my favorite weather. Fortunately, the two frequently coincide.

Stay classy, folks.
